The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Delta, Benedict Etanabene, has urged Nigerian youths to look beyond immediate political gratifications and use their permanent voter cards (PVCs) to reshape their future.

Etanabene, currently representing Okpe/Sapele/Uvwie Federal Constituency of Delta in the House of Representatives,, gave the advice in an interview with our correspondent in Abuja on Monday.

He decried the country’s current present challenges, including economic, social, security and infrastructural, among others.

The governorship aspirant advised the youth to organise themselves organically, resist being used as political thugs and vote for leaders with proven capacities to steer the nation out of its current challenges.

“My advice to the Nigerian youth is that they should look at their lives now and project 10 to 20 years from now with the present horizons.

“The youth must take their destiny into their hands. They do not need to belong to any formal or rigid organisation to do this.

“They must collectively use their voter cards to vote for the right person who will get us from the present trajectory,” Etanabene said

Reviewing the contemporary political engagements in Nigeria, the lawmaker condemned those he described as mainstream politicians who recruit young Nigerians into a ‘do-or-die’. mindset.

“The way politicians are recruiting the Nigerian youth to think and perform today is not what politics ought to be.

“Youths must see through this and prioritise their survival and the stability of the society,” he stated.

According to him, while political choices are expanding, key figures like Mr Peter Obi remain visible on the horison.

Etanabene added that the nation was also awaiting former President Goodluck Jonathan with alternative experienced governance models to restore the country’s democratic and institutional independence.
