Primaries: Tinubu’s consultations will address grievances – APC elders tell members
Elders in All Progressives Congress (APC) say the party, led by President Bola Tinubu, will consult stakeholders before official announcement of the concluded primaries’ results across the country.
Elder Demola Ijabiyi, Facilitator, PBAT Mandate Elders’ Forum in APC, Ondo State, made the assurance during the June edition of the forum’s meeting on Wednesday in Akure.
Ijabiyi noted that the concerned area of the forum was the conduct of primaries for the party’s candidates in the National Assembly.
According to him, Tinubu’s leadership style will make appropriate and adequate consultations with all stakeholders before making any critical decision.
“We, the elders, are concerned about the national assembly primaries of our party because we don’t want any problem in the party.
“We know that there are some discontentment in some areas. We want to make sure that everything is okay, but the result of the primary is not yet out.
“As you know, our National Working Committee has decided that all results will be announced from the party, andwe are waiting for them
“I trust our leader, President Tinubu.
I know that he has his own style but the president does not take political decisions without consultation.
“We believe that our national body will do the right thing and give us results that will cause no dis-affection in the state.
“When the results are out, everybody will be satisfied with what the national leadership has done,” he said.
Ijabiyi also said thecandidacy of the National Assembly members would be of interest to the president.
He explained that the forum was also concerned with equity, saying the decision of the party must not negatively affect the election of Tinubu in 2027.
“We don’t want to do anything that will affect our vote for him. That’s our only interest. But we are also concerned about equity. There must be equity in the choice of candidates.
Ijabiyi lauded the unrelenting efforts of Minister of Interior, Dr Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, adding that forum members had received countless medical services including complicated cases, which had been treated free of charge.
Also, Mrs Bunmi Osadahun, the woman leader of the group, said the forum believed in the party’s supremacy.
“Whatever that comes from the National Working Committee, that is what we will accept,” she said.
Osadahun appreciated the Minister of Interior for taking welfare and health of elders as a priority in the state.
