FG to resume evacuation of 271 Nigerians from S/Africa

The Federal Government has announced its readiness to resume the evacuation of 271 Nigerian nationals seeking to return from South Africa.The announcement is contained in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Ebienfa.

The exercise marks the second batch of evacuations, following the return of 258 Nigerians from South Africa in an earlier operation.

Ebienfa said Nigeria would resume the evacuation of citizens who had indicated interest in returning from South Africa on June 29, 2026.

“An Air Peace aircraft will depart Nigeria today, June 29, at 3:00 p.m., and is expected to arrive in South Africa at approximately 9:00 p.m. local time.

“The return flight is scheduled to depart South Africa at 12:00 midnight and is expected to arrive at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, on Tuesday morning. The expected number of evacuees is 271,” he said.

Our correspondent reports that the Federal Government had reiterated its commitment to ensuring that no Nigerian is left to suffer unnecessarily abroad.
