Make poverty reduction top priority, PDP tasks Diri
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa has urged Gov. Douye Diri to make the fight against poverty reduction a top priority of his administration.
The Publicity Secretary, Mr Ikaebimo Mark, said in a statement in Yenagoa that many families were struggling to meet their basic needs.
Mark urged the governor to take advantage of the increased revenue from the centre to improve the welfare of Bayelsa people.
“Hunger and poverty have become widespread across communities, the welfare of citizens should be made an utmost priority.
The PDP spokesman further urged the Bayelsa governor to implement programmes that would create jobs, and stimulate economic activities.
“Efforts should be made to support small and medium-scale enterprises in order to create wealth,” he said.
He called for more investment in youth and women empowerment initiatives in order to improve the people’s standard of living.
“The government should enter partnerships that can deliver measurable economic benefits through industrial growth and employment opportunities,” he said.
