Technical education policy `ll create jobs, wealth — NABTEB

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) says the Federal Government’s policy to promote technical education will create jobs and wealth as well as boost Nigeria’s industrialisation drive.

The Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, NABTEB, Dr Mohammed Mohammed, said this at Federal Science and Technical College (FSTC), Awka on Wednesday.

Mohammed was in the institution to monitor the ongoing NABTEB 2026 May/June in-school National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC).

“In terms of practical work, where Nigeria is heading to is better off because students must have a skill after technical education.

“Automatically after you graduate from a technical school, you will become self-reliant.

“Technical education is the right way to go because you will not graduate and roam the streets.

“You will start something on your own because you have acquired the necessary skills,” he said.

According to him, when you graduate you must have acquired skills in automobile, wood work, basic electricity, electrical electronics among others.

He said that there was the need to tailor the minds of the younger generation to technical education to boost the country’s economy toward industrialisation.

“You will be self-reliant to create jobs and wealth for yourself and others,” he said.

The registrar warned that Nigeria was already running late in utilising its local content for development compared with other developing nations.

He, however, expressed satisfaction with the ongoing examinations nationwide, adding that no fewer than 226 students from the FSTC, Awka, registered for the examinations while 167,000 candidates are sitting for the examinations nationwide.
