Alleged N35m fraud: Court adjourns ex-SDP chairman’s trial

An Abuja High Court on Monday adjourned the alleged N35 million financial misappropriation case against the immediate past National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Shehu Gabam until Aug. 17.

Our correspondent reports that Gabam was docked before Chief Magistrate Amauche Onyedium alongside Chukwuma Ogbonna Uchechukwu in suit No. DCC/10/2026 for alleged misappropriation of SDP’s N35 million.

The direct criminal complaint was instituted by the current SDP under relevant provisions of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015.

The SDP, which instituted the case, had charged Gabam with criminal breach of trust, misappropriation, theft and other financial offences.

Earlier, the court announced it would not be sitting due to unforeseen circumstances, and hence would not proceed with proceedings for the day.

Counsel agreed for Aug. 17 as the new adjourned date.

Speaking with newsmen, after the stalled proceedings, SDP National Chairman, Prof. Sadiq Gombe, said it was the first time since the trial began that the court failed to sit.
