Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to Gov. Hope Uzodimma of Imo to use his influence to ensure a peaceful, free and credible governorship election in Osun State.

Uzodimma has been appointed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) as Chairman of the party’s National Campaign Council for the Aug. 15 poll.

The incumbent governor and Davido’s uncle, Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election under the Accord Party, with the singer as Head of Youth Mobilisation for his campaign council.

Speaking at a news conference, Davido urged the APC’s campaign chairman to use his position to support a peaceful poll that will ensure that Osun people exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation.

In a video from the news conference shared on social media, Davido said his appeal was born out of his personal connection to Imo State, noting that his wife, Chioma, hails from the state.

“To our daddy from Imo State, I say this with respect, sir. I have heard rumours suggesting there may be attempts to interfere in the electoral process.

“I cannot verify these claims, but I appeal to you to use your influence and allow the people of Osun to choose their candidate freely.

“I have a deep connection to Imo State. My wife, Chioma, is from your state, which makes this appeal more sincere. Please, let Osun remain peaceful,” he said.

The “I Know Who I Be” crooner stressed that no political interest should be allowed to threaten the lives of residents of the state.

“No political ambition, election or disagreement is worth the life of any Osun son or daughter. Let us reject violence and allow peace to prevail.”

Davido called on political actors and supporters to conduct themselves peacefully before, during and after the election to safeguard lives and preserve the integrity of the democratic process.
