Suspected fraudster docked over alleged ATM fraud

A suspected fraudster, Emmanuel Nwokorie, was on Tuesday docked in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court Ibadan over an alleged Automated Teller Machine (ATM) fraud.

Nwokorie, 39, was charged with conspiracy, theft and unlawful possession of ATM cards.

He, however pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Adeshina Folaranmi said the defendant committed the offences on Aug. 8, at about 11.00 a.m, at Access Bank, Challenge area in Ibadan.

Folaranmi alleged that Nwokorie and others at large were caught with ATM cards belonging to one Adenike Fatubi and Jonathan Ayowumi.

The prosecutor alleged that the defendant also defrauded one Komolafe Timothy to the tune of N1,448,000, at the ATM situated at the same bank.

He said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 516, 390(9) and 430 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Oluwabusayo Osho granted the defendant bail in the sum of one million naira and two sureties in like sum.

Osho, among other terms, held that one of the sureties must be a close blood relation to the defendant while one a landed property owner with proof of appropriate documents.

She adjourned the case until Oct. 12, for mention.
