NSCDC denies serving officer conviction

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Katsina Command, says none of its serving personnel has been convicted of job racketeering.

The command’s spokesman, SC Buhari Hamisu, made the clarification in a statement issued on Wednesday in Katsina.

Hamisu was reacting to a viral text alleging that a serving Deputy Commandant of the Corps was convicted by a Katsina High Court.

He described the claim as false, saying the information misrepresented the facts and created a misleading impression about the Corps.

The spokesman confirmed that a conviction occurred but explained that the individual involved had already retired from the NSCDC before the court’s judgment.

He said the clarification became necessary to correct what he termed a distorted account capable of misleading members of the public.

Hamisu condemned the circulation of the report, warning that such misinformation could cause unnecessary public anxiety and erode confidence in security institutions.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to discipline, accountability and professionalism in the discharge of its duties.

“The command maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward criminal tendencies among its personnel,” he stated.

Hamisu said the Corps remained focused on protecting critical national assets and infrastructure in line with its statutory responsibilities.

He urged members of the public to be cautious when dealing with individuals claiming they could secure employment in government agencies.

“The NSCDC specifically warned job seekers against recruitment and employment racketeers who exploit the desperation of unsuspecting applicants,” he said.

The spokesman advised job seekers to rely only on official recruitment channels and verified information when seeking employment opportunities.

According to him, many unsuspecting applicants lose their hard-earned money to fraudsters posing as recruitment agents or government officials.

He urged the public to report suspicious activities and verify recruitment information through authorised sources before making any payments.
