Fans Celebrate Veteran Comedian Ayo Makun at 55

Fans, colleagues and well-wishers of veteran Nigerian comedian and actor, Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, have celebrated him as he marks his 55th birthday on Wednesday.

It was reported that the ace entertainer made the announcement in a post on his verified Instagram account @aycomedian.

The post reads: “THIS IS 55.

“A life of grace.

“A journey of resilience.

“A heart full of gratitude.

“I’ve seen the highs, survived the lows, learned the lessons, and through it all, God has been good.

“55 years. Visibly blessed. Deeply grateful. Still standing. Still smiling. Still becoming.

Happy Birthday to me.”

Fans, well-wishers and colleagues in the entertainment industry have since taken to social media to celebrate the renowned comedian, with many sharing goodwill messages and prayers.

NAN reports that AY Makun, recently made headlines by criticising social media’s “court of injustice”, joking about 2Baba’s reported marital crisis on stage, and promoting his upcoming comedy shows.

He described social media as a “court of injustice” where the initial narrative often shapes public opinion before the facts are fully established.

He said social media users often favoured the first account presented, leading to immediate judgments before other sides of a story were heard.

AY Makun was born on Aug. 19, 1971, and hails from Ifon, Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, although he grew up in Warri, Delta State.

He studied Theatre Arts at Delta State University, Abraka, where he developed an interest in entertainment and earned several campus recognitions.

He began his professional career as an event manager and personal assistant to veteran comedian Alibaba Akporobome before establishing himself as a stand-up comedian and show promoter.

AY Makun gained prominence through appearances on Night of a Thousand Laughs and later founded AY Live, one of Nigeria’s leading comedy and entertainment shows.

Beyond comedy, he has ventured into acting, film production, directing and television. His 2014 movie 30 Days in Atlanta, which he produced and starred in, became one of Nigeria’s highest-grossing films at the time.

He also founded the AY Open Mic Challenge, which has provided a platform for emerging comedians, while his contributions to entertainment have earned him several awards and recognitions.
