Return my virginity, good health, if you want dissolution — Wife tells husband

An Area Court sitting at Centre-Igboro Area, Ilorin, has dissolved an Islamic marriage between Abdullahi Kawu and Adijat AbdulSalam on husband’s request.

The Presiding Judge, Mr Toyin Aluko, while delivering judgment said that according to Islamic law, the husband can divorce his wife at will without giving any reason.

Aluko, however, said that the right for the divorce should be exercised with the fear of Almighty Allah.

“Consequently, upon the above, the marriage is dissolved.

“The respondent should observe three months (Iddah) waiting period, before she could marry any other person of her choice, in line with Quran 2, verse 228,” he said.

The judge said that a copy of the judgment should be served on the wife.

The husband had earlier applied for divorce, citing lack of love and affection.

The wife, however, told the court that she did not concede to the divorce.

She said that the marriage is blessed with three children aged 17, 14 and 11.
