Police arraign man, 34, over alleged N1.5m fraud
The police on Wednesday arraigned a 34-year-old man, Ogunyebi Adebowale, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged N1.5 million fraud.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a one-count charge of fraud.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 3 at about 3.00 p.m. in Ijurin-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant obtained N1.5 million from the complainant, Mr Adejuwon Olalekan, on the pretext of constructing window burglary protectors, which he failed to do.
Oriyomi said the offence contravened Section 329 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Oluwafemi Alabi, urged the court to grant him bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Oct. 6 for hearing.
