Sani inaugurates 4 boards, tasks members on accountability

Kaduna State Government has inaugurated governing boards for four agencies, charging members to uphold accountability, transparency and due process in discharging their responsibilities.

The Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abdulkadir Meyere, performed the inauguration on behalf of Gov. Uba Sani on Thursday in Kaduna.

He urged the members to work closely with management and relevant stakeholders to promote transparency, accountability and improved performance.

The agencies are: Kaduna State Livestock Development Authority, Kaduna State Media Corporation, Schools Quality Assurance Authority and Scholarship and Loans Board.

For the Kaduna State Schools Quality Assurance Authority, Tanko Kokwain Baji was appointed Chairman of the Governing Board.

The Director-General of the Kaduna State Quality Assurance Authority will serve as Secretary to the board, alongside other appointed members.

Lawal Usman, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, was appointed Chairman of the Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board.

The Executive Secretary of the Kaduna State Scholarship and Loans Board will serve as Secretary to the Governing Board, alongside other members.

El-Sa’ad Yakubu Lere was appointed Chairman of the Governing Board of the Kaduna State Media Corporation.

David Umar Gurara was appointed Chairman of the Governing Board of the Kaduna State Livestock Regulatory Authority.

The Director General of the Kaduna State Livestock Regulatory Authority will serve as Secretary to the Governing Board, alongside other members.

The SSG urged the newly inaugurated board members to bring their wealth of experience to bear in discharging their responsibilities.

He said the government would continue to strengthen its institutions through competent leadership, effective oversight and policies aimed at improving service delivery to residents.

The SSG said the Livestock Development Authority remained central to developing a sector that sustained livelihoods and offered significant investment opportunities.

He said the Media Corporation had the responsibility of informing, educating and enlightening citizens while projecting the achievements of the government.

Meyere said the Schools Quality Assurance Authority and Scholarship and Loans Board reflected government’s priority on human capital development through education.

Meyere also charged members to comply with the Kaduna State Procurement Act and extant financial regulations, making prudence, accountability and transparency their hallmarks.

He cautioned members against conflicts between personal interests and those of their institutions and the state, urging discretion in handling confidential matters.

The SSG further urged the boards to work closely with chief executives and staff while setting clear and measurable targets for assessing their performance.

He assured the boards of government’s support, saying his office remained open to receiving their reports, recommendations and requests through appropriate channels.

Meyere said the people’s expectations were high, urging the appointees to contribute to the success of the administration and justify the confidence reposed in them.

Meyere congratulated the appointees, saying their selection reflected the confidence reposed in them by the governor and was a call to dedicated service.

Earlier, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mallam Ibrahim Musa, urged the boards to avoid interfering with the day-to-day administration of their agencies.

Musa said governing boards should provide oversight without creating conflicts with chief executives, stressing the importance of clearly defined responsibilities.

He expressed confidence that the calibre of people appointed would prevent overlapping roles and conflicts between board chairmen and chief executives.

Musa urged the appointees to support the governor’s transformation agenda by deploying their experience, skills and competence to move the agencies forward.

In his vote of thanks, the Commissioner for Education thanked Allah for the inauguration, describing it as an extension of the administration’s transformation agenda to good governance.

The commissioner said the boards had remained inactive for some time, expressing appreciation to the governor for reconstituting them in line with relevant laws.

Responding on behalf of the appointees, the Chairman of the Schools Quality Assurance Authority, Tanko Baji, pledged their commitment to improving education in Kaduna State.

Baji said the board would work toward strengthening quality, accountability, standards and access across schools in the state.

He identified infrastructure deficits, teacher quality, school safety and disparities in access as some of the challenges facing the education sector.

The chairman said the challenges also presented opportunities for meaningful reforms and lasting improvements in educational delivery.

He pledged to strengthen quality assurance through transparent, measurable and data-driven standards for monitoring public and private schools.

Baji also promised to promote accountability and continuous improvement by supporting schools, teachers and administrators to improve learning outcomes.

He said the board would prioritise efforts to ensure that children currently out of school were given opportunities to return to school.
