FRSC begins Operation Whirlwind to curb traffic offences in Kaduna
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kaduna Sector Command, has announced the commencement of a special intervention patrol code-named “Operation Whirlwind” along the Abuja-Kaduna and Kaduna-Abuja corridors.
The operation, scheduled to commence on Sept. 15 and end on Sept. 17, will begin daily by 6:00 a.m.
This is contained in a statement signed by Route Commander Usman Garba, Staff Officer, Public Education, on behalf of the Sector Commander, in Kaduna on Monday.
Garba said the operation was aimed at addressing critical traffic offences identified as major contributors to road traffic crashes and loss of lives.
He said the enforcement would focus particularly on speeding, overloading and route violations, among other traffic offences.
According to him, the operation is a joint effort involving personnel of the FRSC Kaduna Sector Command, Kakau Unit Command, Nigeria Police Force and Nigerian Army.
He said strict enforcement of traffic regulations would be carried out during the operation, while a mobile court would also be deployed to facilitate prompt prosecution of offenders in accordance with extant laws.
Garba quoted the Sector Commander, CC Andrew Longkam, as urging motorists plying the Abuja-Kaduna and Kaduna-Abuja corridors to strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
Longkam advised motorists to avoid speeding and overloading and comply with designated routes to prevent avoidable crashes.
He also urged motorists to cooperate with enforcement personnel and drive responsibly, stressing that the ultimate objective of the operation was to prevent road traffic crashes, save lives and ensure safer road transportation along the corridor.
The FRSC reiterated its commitment to maintaining safer roads through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment and collaboration with relevant security and traffic management agencies.
