Police nab suspected cultist, recover rubber pistol, other weapons

The Police Command in Lagos State has detained a 36-year-old suspected cultist and recovered a rubber-made pistol, axe, charms and illicit drug from him in Ikorodu area of the state.

The command spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, disclosed this in a statement in Lagos on Tuesday.

Adebisi said the suspect was apprehended during an intelligence-led anti-crime patrol by operatives along the Idi-Iroko, Ogolonto and Agric areas of Ikorodu.

She said the arrest followed credible intelligence received by the operatives during the patrol.

The spokesperson said that a search conducted on him led to the recovery of one rubber-made pistol, one axe, criminal charms and an illicit drug popularly known as “Ice”.

According to her, the suspect is currently in police custody and assisting the command with its ongoing investigation.

Adebisi said that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the suspect’s alleged cult group.

She said the operation was part of the command’s continued efforts to curb cultism and other criminal activities across the state.

The spokesperson said that the state Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr Fatai Tijani, commended the operatives for their vigilance and prompt response to credible information.

“CP Tijani, while commending officers, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations against cultism and other forms of criminality across the state, ” she said.

Adebisi urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to the police to assist in preventing and detecting crime.
