FG to attract private coys to NGX listing via incentives — Oyedele
The Federal Government says it will attract and encourage private and public companies to list on the Nigeria Exchange Group (NGX) through incentives.
Prof. Taiwo Oyedele, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, said this at the 2026 National Capital Market Conference in Abuja on Monday.
Oyedele said that companies like the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and the Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) Limited would have to list on the NGX.
He noted that the listing of the companies would promote transparency and enable citizens who had a share in their assets to benefit.
According to him, we will encourage these companies to list but we will not force them because we want a free market.
”We will use incentives to attract them,” he said.
He said that NNPCL’s potential market value could significantly increase the size of the country’s capital market.
According to him, listing government-owned companies will enable Nigerians to participate in the wealth generated by national assets while creating more investment opportunities for domestic and international investors.
The minister said the country’s economic reforms had helped revive investors’ interest, citing the growth in the equities market capitalisation, rising pension assets and renewed attention from international index providers.
He said equities market capitalisation had increased from less than N30 trillion in mid 2023 to about N160 trillion, while pension assets had reached N27.5tn.
Oyedele noted that the government was working toward returning the country to J.P. Morgan’s flagship government bond index and securing an upgrade into the emerging-market category.
He said the new master plan would help fight ponzi schemes, ensure stronger surveillance including monitoring of social media, joint enforcement, and a fraud restitution mechanism that would help stop the scheme.
The minister said the plan would also empower and strengthen the Investment and Securities Tribuna (IST) to ensure the resolution of investment cases in real time.
On the National Savings Scheme, he said it would drive financial inclusion and regulated way to save for education, a home, business or retirement.
Dr Emomotimi Agama, the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), said the scheme was designed to encourage savings among different segments of the population, including traders, farmers and young graduates, while connecting domestic savings to productive investments.
He said the scheme had legal backing under the Investments and Securities Act 2025, with funds to be managed by professional fund managers registered with the Commission.
According to him, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) involving the SEC, Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) and FSD Africa will support the initiative through tax incentives aimed at encouraging savings.
Agama said the Commission would establish implementation structures to ensure that the capital market master plan delivered measurable results.
It was reported that various stakeholders from the capital market attended the conference.
