Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State has provided alternative plots, farmlands and free fertiliser to communities affected by a decade-long land dispute.

Sani said no community would be rendered homeless under his administration, stressing its commitment to human dignity and the sanctity of life.

The governor made the declaration on Sunday while distributing land titles to seven communities in Igabi Local Government Area affected by a land dispute involving the military.

“Beyond providing plots, ensuring that all of you have decent shelter is important to our administration because we believe in human dignity,” he said.

The governor said each beneficiary would receive farmland to support their livelihoods, noting that about 90 per cent of the affected residents were farmers.

The beneficiaries comprised households in Unguwan Malam Auta, Unguwan Alhassan, Unguwan Lauya, Unguwan Aboki, Unguwan Danjuma, Unguwan Musa and Unguwan Yohana.

The governor said the dispute predated his administration, adding that efforts to resolve it amicably had been unsuccessful, although the matter remained in court.

He said vulnerable residents, particularly those who lost their livelihoods, would receive support to resume economic activities, including small businesses.

The governor assured the communities that the state government would not abandon them, expressing concern over the hardship they had endured.

He commended residents for maintaining peaceful coexistence despite their ethnic, religious and political differences.

Sani said Muslims and Christians in the communities had continued to live and work together as one family, including during the dispute.

Earlier, the Director General of Kaduna State Geographic Information Service (KADGIS) Dr Bashir Garba said the Sani administration had resolved 5,285 inherited land disputes and supported more than 2,000 communities displaced by conflicts or land-related issues.

He described the affected communities’ case as a 10-year dispute involving the military, which previous administrations had been unable to resolve.

Garba commended the governor for providing alternative plots and farmlands, saying the intervention would help sustain the livelihoods of residents, most of whom were farmers.
