Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO) Plc has integrated Google Pay into its banking and payment services, enabling eligible customers to pay online and businesses to accept payments through the platform.

The group said in a statement issued on Tuesday, saying that customers of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) could add eligible debit cards to Google Wallet, while businesses using Squad, its payment gateway operated by HabariPay, could accept Google Pay at checkout.

The integration enables GTCO to serve both sides of digital transactions, connecting customers making payments with merchants receiving them.

According to the group , GTBank customers can select Google Pay when checking out online without repeatedly entering their card details.

The service uses digital tokens designed to protect actual card information during transactions.

GTCO said Google Pay had been enabled by default on Squad’s payment gateway, although merchants could deactivate the option.

It added that Squad merchants configured for international payments could accept Google Pay transactions from customers abroad, potentially expanding payment options for Nigerian businesses serving international markets.

Commenting on the development, Chief Executive Officer of GTCO Group, Mr Segun Agbaje, said the group was committed to making digital transactions safer and simpler for customers and businesses.

He said the integration demonstrated how the group’s banking and payment businesses could work together to improve the digital payment experience.

The Managing Director of HabariPay, Mrs Eduofon Japhet, said the service would allow Squad merchants to offer customers another payment option without additional integration requirements.
