Sen. Sahabi Ya’u (APC-Zamfara) has been declared winner of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for Zamfara North Senatorial District.

Sen. Ya’u is the incumbent Senator representing Zamfara North Senatorial District.

Recall that the Federal High Court, Gusau, in September nullified the APC primary election held on May 19, over alleged irregularities and violation of the party’s constitution.

The Court of Appeal, Sokoto Division, in its judgement delivered on October 20, affirmed the decision of the Federal High Court, Gusau.

The two courts ordered the party to conduct a fresh primary involving all aspirants cleared to participate.

Announcing the result of the primary held on Nov. 2, on Tuesday in Gusau, the Chairman of the APC Senatorial Primary Election for Zamfara North Senatorial District, Dr Auwal Abdullahi-Aliyu, said three aspirants contested the election.

“The three aspirants who contested the primary were Sahabi Alhaji-Ya’u, Alhaji Tijjani Yahaya and Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi,” he said.

He said Sahabi Alhaji-Ya’u scored 49,176 votes, Alhaji Tijjani Yahaya scored 9,628 votes, while Sani Abdullahi-Shinkafi scored 2,602 votes.

“Senator Sahabi Alhaji-Ya’u, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and guidelines and scored the highest number of votes in the primary election, is hereby returned elected,” the committee chairman said.
