The Police Command in Katsina State has arrested a 45-year-old suspected drug dealer and recovered 15,000 Pregabalin tablets allegedly in his possession.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday in Katsina.

Sadiq-Aliyu said the suspect, identified as Junaidu Rabi’u, was arrested on Oct. 17, at about 6:30 p.m. by operatives of the Central Market Division, following credible intelligence.

He said the arrest followed an information received by the division at about 5:30 p.m. concerning a suspect conveying a large quantity of illicit drugs.

According to him, a search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of 15,000 Pregabalin tablets, packaged in 1,000 sachets.

The PPRO said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect confessed to the offence, claiming that one Nafi’u, who is currently at large, contracted him to receive and convey the consignment.

He said efforts were being intensified to track down and arrest the fleeing accomplice, adding that the arrested suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigation.

The spokesperson quoted the Commissioner of Police, Ali Umar-Fage, commending the operatives for their prompt action and reiterated the command’s commitment to combating crime and criminality in the state.

The commissioner also appreciated residents for their continued support through the provision of useful information to security personnel and urged them sustain the tempo.
