France’s blood bank cooling system had been hit by a cyber attack, with the authorities confirming that the refrigeration systems were manipulated remotely.

The French blood bank authorities (EFS), on Thursday said that the attack had caused the temperatures to rise to very high levels.

It said that the temperature change was detected quickly, and measures were taken to ensure that no samples or blood products had been affected.

Blood products and bio samples are kept in cooling units before being delivered to healthcare facilities.

Meanwhile, French banking group Credit Mutuel Arkea confirmed fraudulent transactions due to a cyber attack, but assured customers that the incident had been contained and their funds remain secure.

According to a company statement, the group temporarily suspended certain transactions as a precaution after the breach was detected.

The incident followed similar cyber-attacks recently targeting refrigerators and freezers in supermarkets in some European countries.
