Man, 56, docked over alleged N4.9m fraud

A 56-year-old man, John Yakubu on Wednesday stood before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court Ibadan over charges bordering on N4.9 million fraud.

The defendant is standing trial on charges bordering on obtaining money by false pretences and stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Insp. Samuel Owolabi alleged that the defendant committed the offences in January at Ojoo, Ibadan.

According to him, the defendant obtained the sum of N4.9 million from one Aminu Aliu, with a promise of selling to him a Toyota Corolla car.

He alleged that the defendant failed to do so but converted the money to his personal use.

The offences contravene the provisions of sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs Gladys Olanrewaju granted the defendant bail in the sum of one million naira with two reliable sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case until Oct.27, for hearing.
