LAWMA urges proper disposal of medical waste

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has urged healthcare facilities and residents to ensure proper handling and disposal of medical waste.

The authority gave the advice in a public awareness message shared on its official X handle on Wednesday.

LAWMA said used syringes, needles, gloves, bandages and other healthcare waste required proper handling and disposal through approved medical waste management systems.

It warned that improper disposal of medical waste could endanger public health and pose risks to the environment.

The authority stressed that medical waste should be separated from regular household or commercial waste before disposal.

It urged healthcare providers and residents to dispose of medical waste responsibly to protect lives and promote a cleaner and safer Lagos.

LAWMA reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening safe waste management practices across the state through approved medical waste collection and treatment systems.
