3 men in court over alleged conspiracy, stealing
Three men, Akinola Timileyin (39), Peter Ojo (46) and Akinware Ademola(35), were on Wednesday arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged conspiracy and stealing.
The defendants, of unknown addresses, are facing a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, attempt to steal, and stealing.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on Aug. 8 at about 08:00 a.m in Ado-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendants conspired together to commit felony to wit: stealing.
“On March 28, at about 09:00 a.m in Ado-Ekiti, the defendants stole Wema Bank ATM card from one clergy, Mr Obadimeji Busuyi and unlawfully withdrew the sum of N660, 000 from his account.
“Also on March 29 at about 09:06 a.m in Ado-Ekiti, the defendants stole another Wema bank ATM card from one Selewa Akinola and unlawfully withdrew the sum of N144,000 from his account,” Oriyomi alleged.
According to him, the offences contravened Sections 421, 416(1), 302(1)(a) and 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.
The prosecutor asked the court for adjournment to enable him study the case file and assemble his witnesses.
The counsel to the defendants, Mr Olorunfemi Alabi, urged the court to grant the defendants bail, with a promise that they would not jump bail.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N200, 000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.
He, thereafter, adjourned the case till Sept.25, for hearing.
