Police arraign man, 35, over alleged unlawful grazing
The police, on Friday, arraigned a 35-year-old man, Suleiman Yusuf, before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged unlawful grazing.
The defendant, of no fixed address, is standing trial on a one-count charge of unlawful grazing.
The prosecutor, ASP Akinwale Oriyomi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Aug. 25 at about 2:00 p.m at Igede farm settlement in Ayede-Ekiti.
He alleged that the defendant unlawfully graze his cattle into an unauthorised farmland.
Oriyomi said that the offence contravened Section 2 and Punishable under Section 7 of the Prohibition of Cattle and Other Ruminant Grazing in Ekiti State Law 2016.
He urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him study the file and assemble his witnesses.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against him.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr Adeyinka Opaleke, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that he would not jump bail.
In his ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
He adjourned the case till Sept. 21 for hearing.
