Magistrate orders motorcyclist’s arrest over failure to appear in court

A Senior Chief Magistrate’s Court in Mararaba Gurku, Nasarawa State has revoked the bail out granted Iliyasu Ibrahim, a motorcyclist, over failure to appear in court.

The Chief Magistrate, Hadiza Abdullahi, also ordered Ibrahim’s arrest.

Abdullahi adjourned the matter until Sept. 22, for further hearing.

It was reported that the Ibrahim, was arraigned before the court for alleged deceit and breach of contract.

The complainant, Mr Micheal Owah of Aku Village, Mararaba, reported the case to the police, accusing Ibrahim of failure to comply with the terms of payment for the motorcycles he hired.

The prosecutor, Daniel Torkange, told the court that on June 6, 2023, Ibrahim collected two Bajaj motorcycles worth N810,000 each on hire purchase to remit the sum of N100,000 weekly.

Torkange alleged that the defendant refused to pay Owah the money as promised.

The offense, he said, contravenes the provisions of Sections 311, 320, 397, of the Penal Code Law of Nasarawa State.

Torkange said Ibrahim was remanded and later released on bail.

The prosecutor said the defendant paid N200,000 only after he was granted bail.

Torkange said the matter was dated for hearing but the defendant had failed to appear, neither his surety nor the defending counsel.
