Fans celebrate veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor at 68

Fans of veteran Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwor, a.k.a Mama G, are celebrating her for her contribution to the movie industry and wish her continued good health, strength and fulfilment as she marks her 68th birthday.

The Nollywood legend made a post earlier on her verified Instagram page, @patienceozokwo, expressing gratitude to God for the gift of life, good health and sound mind.

She wrote: “Celebrating my birthday today with a grateful heart.

“I want to thank God Almighty for long life, good health, sound mind and the knowledge of Him.

“I am also grateful to God for all #MamaGLovers.

“You’ve all been wonderful and loving. May God continue to bless you and your families and prosper you all in your life endeavours in Jesus Christ name, Amen.”

Following the post, fans, well-wishers and industry colleagues have taken to social media to celebrate the veteran actress, with many sharing goodwill messages and prayers.

It was reported that Ozokwo was born on Sept. 14, 1958, in Ngwo, Enugu State, and hails from Amaebo village in Ngwo, Enugu State.

She studied Fine and Applied Arts at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu and began her career as an announcer and broadcaster with Radio Nigeria before venturing into television and film.

Ozokwo gained prominence after starring in the 1999 movie “Authority,” while her portrayal of memorable characters in Nollywood earned her the popular nickname “Mama G.”

The actress, who is also a gospel singer and an ordained evangelist, has featured in more than 100 films and has enjoyed a career spanning several decades particularly known for portraying strong and often villainous characters in Nollywood films.

She has received several honours for her contribution to Nollywood, including the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2012 and 2013.

In 2023, Ozokwor received the Industry Merit Award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards in recognition of her contribution to the Nigerian film industry.

Over the years, her distinctive performances and longevity have earned her a place among Nollywood’s veteran actors, with many fans continuing to celebrate her as “Mama G.”

She starred in the Mo Abudu Netflix films “Chief Daddy” (2018) and “Chief Daddy 2: Going for Broke” (2022) as Madam Pat.
