Police arrest man over attempt to use father, siblings, 5 friends for ritual

A 45-year-old man, Ramon Odebiyi on Thursday appeared before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court in Isabo, for allegedly breaking into a convenience store to steal and damaging property while at it.

Odebiyi, whose address was not provided, pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge bordering on  burglary and damage of property.

The prosecutor, ASP Johnson Pendosoji, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 13 at about 1:30 a.m beside Ajoke Filling Station, Adebayo Kemta, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta.

Pendosoji alleged that Odebiyi burgled and entered into a convenience store with the intent to steal.

He added that Odebiyi maliciously damaged three padlocks valued at N150,000, property of Mrs Adeola Diyaolu.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant, unaware of the presence of security guards on duty was caught in the act.

Pendosoji said Odebiyi was apprehended and subsequently arrested by the police.

He said the offences contravened the provisions of Section 413, 451 and 509 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun 2006.

The Magistrate, Mrs A. Morakinyo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with one surety in like sum, who must be a registered bondsman with the Ogun State Judiciary.

Morakinyo ordered that Odebiyi be remanded at the Ibara Correctional Centre pending the perfection of his bail conditions.

She adjourned the case until Oct. 6 for hearing.
