Man docked for allegedly assaulting his neighbours

A man, Abdullahi Shuiabu, was on Tuesday, docked in a Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly assaulting his neighbours and causing grievous hurt.

The ​‌‌‍​‍⁠⁠‌⁠‌‌‌⁠⁠⁠⁠‌​police charged Shuiabu, who lives in Citec Estate Airport road, Abuja, with assault and causing grievous hurt.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecution Counsel, Ms Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Miss Chisom Ihetu, of the same address, reported the matter at the Life Camp Police Station on Aug. 29.

Nwachukwu said that the defendant approached the complainant while she was cleaning her room and asked her to remove the trash from the living room area of the house .

She said that both complainant and defendant exchanged abusive words.

The police alleged that the defendant seized the broom from the complainant and hit her with it.

Nwachukwu said that complainant sustained severe injuries on her nose.

”When the complainant’s younger sister approached the defendant, he punched her on the face.

“During Police investigation, the defendant could not give satisfactory reason for his action,” she told the court.

She said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 245 of the Penal Code.

Following his not guilty plea, Magistrate Hauwa Aboki, admitted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in like sum.

Aboki ordered that the surety must provide valid means of identification before the court.

She adjourned the case until Sept. 30 for hearing.
