Nollywood, others honour Olu Jacobs at funeral service

Family members, friends, colleagues and dignitaries on Friday, gathered for the funeral service of veteran actor, Olu Jacobs.

The service which happened at This Present House in Lekki Phase I, Lagos, celebrated the life and legacy of the late actor, who died on Sept. 16, 2026, at the age of 84.

The funeral service also attracted members of the entertainment industry who gathered to pay their final respects to the late thespian.

Dare Art Alade, entertainment entrepreneur, performed his hit song, ‘Pray for Me’ which had featured Jacobs and his wife, Joke Silva in the music video.

Olugbenga Jacobs, son of the late actor, presented his father’s biography as part of activities marking the funeral.

Tony Rapu, Head Pastor of the church, delivered a sermon reflecting on Jacobs’ life, career and contributions to the entertainment industry.

Also, pastors at the service offered prayers for the family, asking God to comfort and strengthen them during the period of mourning.

Olusoji Jacobs, another son of the deceased, delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating guests, colleagues and well-wishers for their support and presence.

Dignitaries at the service were Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat; First Lady of Lagos State, Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, Former Ogun State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun amongst several others.

It was reported that Jacobs, popularly known as “The Lion of Lufodo”, enjoyed a career spanning more than five decades across theatre, television and film.

He was married to Joke Silva, with whom he co-founded the Lufodo Group and Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts.

His funeral service followed a Night of Tributes held on Wednesday at Glover Memorial Hall, Lagos Island, where colleagues and admirers celebrated his contributions to Nigerian entertainment.
