Driver docked for allegedly stealing employer’s truck spare parts

A driver, Okoye Emmanuel, was on Tuesday docked in a Life Camp Magistrates’ Court in Abuja for allegedly stealing his employer’s truck spare parts.
The police charged Emmanuel, who resides in Orumba, Anambra state, with breach of trust, mischief, and theft by servant.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecution Counsel  Charity Nwachukwu told the court that the complainant, Mr Favour Kelechi, Manager of CIM Logistics in Abuja, reported the matter at Life Camp Police Station on Aug 27.
Nwachukwu said that the defendant was employed by the complainant as a truck driver, responsible for delivery of goods
She said that the defendant took advantage of his position and destroyed the truck by removing some of spare parts, without the authority or consent of the owner.
The prosecutor said that the parts of the truck removed by the defendant were worth N6.2 million.
According to her, during police investigation, the defendant confessed to stealing and selling the truck parts to one, Abdullahi Alkasim and Jaafar, at Ogere toll gate, Ogun State.
The prosecutor said all efforts made to recover the parts, failed.
The Defence Counsel, Prince Bamigbade, orally applied for bail for his client  under Section 35 (5) of the 1999 Constitution (As Amended).
Magistrate Ramlatu Yusuf, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum N3 million with two surties in like sum.
Yusuf, ordered that the sureties must a Civil Servant not below GL 09, who must provide reliable means of identification.
She adjourned the matter until Oct 26 for hearing.
