Anniversary: Oba of Benin leads spiritual rites at heritage sites
The Oba of Benin, Ewuare II, on Tuesday, offered special prayers at sacred heritage sites across Benin metropolis as part of the activities marking his 10th coronation anniversary.
The traditional rites, which highlighted the deep cultural history of Benin, were performed by the Ewaise Palace group, accompanied by horse riders, who also featured at Saturday’s Durbar.
The delegation visited key historic sites, including the sacred Usama Palace through Ode-Obaiwu and the Iyoba statue in Uselu.
The delegation deepened spiritual connection and sought blessings for prosperous years ahead.
The Aghamioba N’ Ewaise of Benin, Chief Ogbemudia Emovon, led the delegation as it made the rounds.
They invoked spirits of the land to bear witness while offering prayers at the Queen Emotan and Queen Iden tombs on Iwebo Street.
The spiritual exercise concluded at the main palace gate with prayers to God and the royal ancestors for peace, unity and protection over the realm.
Through these timeless traditions, Oba Ewuare re-anchored the ancient tradition to its spiritual foundation, ensuring that the legacy of peace, progress and ancestral reverence remained unbroken for generations to come.
