Eno tasks corps members on patriotism, innovation
Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has urged corps members to uphold patriotism, innovation and selfless service in order to effectively contribute to nation building.
Eno made the call while declaring open the 2026 Batch C, stream II orientation course on Friday at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit Atai Local Government Area.
Represented by Mr Emmanuel Akpabio, Director, Ministry of Youth Development, Eno reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the security and welfare of corps members during the service year.
He urged the corps members to deploy their intellect, energy and creativity towards advancing the ideals of the National Youth Service Corps scheme.
Eno said that corps members’ contributions to nation-building should transcend ethnic, religious, linguistic and socio-cultural differences.
“As strategic stakeholders in the Nigerian project, your contributions must transcend ethnic, religious, linguistic, and socio-cultural boundaries.
“Nigeria looks up to you for fresh ideas, renewed hope, and the promise of a brighter future.
“I urge you to be patriotic, innovative, and committed to the ideals of selfless service,” he said.
The governor said that his administration had taken deliberate steps to promote the safety and comfort of corps members serving in the state.
He encouraged them to use the opportunities provided during the service year for learning and personal development.
Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator in Akwa Ibom, Mrs Rosemary Akuagbaogu, urged the governor to urgently address infrastructural challenges at the orientation camp.
Akuagbaogu identified inadequate facilities and shortage of mattresses as major concerns affecting the welfare of corps members.
She specifically appealed for the provision of 500 mattresses to improve accommodation capacity, and ensure the comfort and safety of corps members.
The coordinator disclosed that 2,494 corps members, comprising 1,184 male and 1,310 female were participating in the orientation course.
She commended the corps members for their discipline and quick adaptation to camp routines, and compliance with rules and regulations.
It was reported that the highlight of the ceremony was the administration of the oath of allegiance to the corps members.
The oath was administered by the Chief Judge of Akwa Ibom, Justice Ekaete Obot, represented by Justice Edem Akpan.
