Chartered Stockbrokers mourns Pa Onosode

The Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers on Wednesday joined other Nigerians to mourned one of the founding fathers of the Institute, late Dr Gamaliel Onosode.
Onosode, 82, died at a Lagos state hospital after a protracted illness.
The institute according to statement posted on its Facebook page described late Onosode as a rare gem who lived a truly exemplary life.
“Pa Onosode was a devout Christian. He carved a niche for himself professionally at the famous NAL Merchant Bank where he contributed immensely in grooming many of the renowned captains of the Nigerian financial industry, particularly the capital market.
“He was very generous in availing the Nigerian government of his knowledge and expertise, and consequently was a member of several Boards and committees. Mr Onosode was the Special Adviser on Budget Affairs to the then President Shehu Shagari.
“He laid the foundation for CIS as we’ve come to know it today.”
Dr. Gamaliel Onosode during his life Chaired quoted companies across diverse sectors including blue chip firms like Cadbury. He founded the first indigenous stockbroking firm, Nigeria Stockbrokers Limited, where he was Chairman until demise.
The first indigenous stockbroker was the inaugural Chairman of the Investors’ Protection Fund; former Council Member of the Nigerian Stock Exchange; Council Member, Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers and Chairman, Board of Fellows, Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers.
