Delta: Tribunal strikes out LP’s petition against Okowa

Delta State governorship Election Tribunal sitting in Asaba the state capital has thrown out the petition by the Labour Party against the PDP and has asked the Labour Party to pay the sum of N50,000 each to the respondents in the case.

The first respondent in the case is the Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa while the second and third respondents are the PDP and the electoral commission, INEC.

The lead judge has commenced delivering judgment in the case brought by the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the PDP’s candidate Ifeanyi Okowa.

The Delta Election Petition Tribunal commenced sitting in Asaba, the state capital to rule on the petition filed by Mr O’tega Emerhor.

The Justice Nasir Gunmi-led tribunal gone through petitions, defence statements and evidences presented in the court since the inception of the tribunal for both the Labour Party candidate, Great Ogboru and APC’s Emerhor.

The petitioners are asking the tribunal to nullify the polls and are calling for fresh elections.

Emerhor, who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), had challenged the declaration of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Ifeanyi Okowa, as the winner of the 2015 governorship poll in Delta State by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

At the last sitting on October 13 where both parties adopted written addresses, Justice Gunmi promised to communicate the judgment date, which must be before October 28, to the parties through the tribunal secretary.
