Ishaku urges Taraba residents to embrace agriculture

Ishaku inaugurates 30 tractors in Jalingo

 

Taraba State Governor, Mr. Darius Ishaku, on Tuesday, urged the people of the state to embrace agriculture to boost the economy and become self-reliant.

Ishaku stated this at the funeral service of Late Daniel Tertsea Orhena in Chanchanji ward, Takum local government area of the state.

The governor who spoke through the permanent Secretary in the ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources Mr. Isaac Mela noted that the country’s over dependence on oil over the years was the reason for the present economic hardship facing the nation given the fall in oil price and urged the people to return to agriculture to change the situation.

He appealed to the people to live in harmony with each other for the peace and development of the state.

Permanent Secretary Manpower Development and Training Mr. Ayuba Nyah who also represented the Head of Service of the State described late Daniel Elias Orhena as dedicated officer with commitment to work, saying he will be greatly missed.

Earlier, Caretaker Chairman of Takum local government, Mr. Shibam Tikari extol the virtues of Late Orhena Daniel for the positive life he lived and his contributions for the development of the community.

He warned miscreants terrorising the community to desist or risk crackdown as his administration will not allow miscreants to close down Peva market which is the revenue life wire of the local government and the state in general.

Also speaking, Zaki David Gbaa (Ter Bali II) urged elders and the traditional class in the community to assist in fishing out criminals who are making the community unhabitable for the people because of their criminal activities.

In his funeral oration, Elder Dennis Orkuma Nev retired Permanent Secretary Taraba Government House Administration appealed to the Head of Service and the state government to employ at least two members of late Daniel Orhena family to help alleviate the challenges created by his death.

Mr. Elias Daniel Orhena was until his death Administrative Officer and Secretary, Department of Manpower Development and Training in the office of the Head of Service of Taraba state.
