Tinubu-Oyegun face-off: Ogbebor calls for truce

A veteran of the Nigerian Civil War (1967 – 70)and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC),Col.l Paul Ogbebor (rtd), has stated that the disagreement between the national leader of the party, Alhaji Ahmed Bola Tinubu and the party’s national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, is being unnecessarily blown out of proportion by some mischief makers.

He was reacting to questions by journalists yesterday in his home in Benin city.

The war veteran said that the duo are the best of friends having started their relationship years back.

Going down memory lane, Col. Ogbebor gave kudos to Tinubu (then governor of Lagos State) for his yeoman effort in ensuring that the then Alliance for Democracy (later Action Congress) was not consumed by the then Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led Federal Government of President Olusegun Obasanjo.

“Tinubu stood his ground to ensure that the Alliance for Democracy (AD) was not obliterated from the political space by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led government at the centre.

“He was always at daggers drawn with the PDP and Obasanjo. I respect him for that. It was not an easy task for him to handle. But he scaled through all the same.

“As an administrator he has the knack to be a pacesetter. His dream of turning Lagos to a mega city is a masterpiece which I will recommend to any governor,” he posited.

On the issue of the recent governorship primaries of the APC in Ondo State, which is the cause of the ‘war’ between Tinubu and Odigie-Oyegun, Col. Ogbebor said that the steps taken so far by the latter has been sacrosanct in ensuring that there is peace in the polity.

He called on mischief makers not to dabble into the issue so as not to stir up bad blood.
