Xenophobia: Rep calls on FG to ensure safety of Nigerians in South Africa
A member of the House of Representatives, Mr Nicholas Ossai (Delta-PDP), has called on the Federal Government to expedite action in ensuring the safety of Nigerians in South Africa.
Ossai made the call in an interview with our correspondent on Wednesday in Abuja.
He said that the xenophobic attacks on Nigerians in South Africa were becoming unbearable and that necessary actions were needed to put an end to it.
According to Ossai, it is unfortunate that South Africans can do what they are doing to Nigerians in spite of Nigeria’s immense contribution to their ‘freedom’.
“For them to turn their back and start to treat Nigerians the way they are doing, I think it is bad.
“I call on the Federal Government to seriously intervene because the life of one Nigerian means a lot to us and I believe the President will take the issue to President Jacob Zuma,’’ he said.
He advised Nigerians in South Africa to remain calm, obedient to their laws and “never try to take laws into their hands as the Federal Government would step into it and resolve the issue’’.
Ossai said that the delegation from the House of Representatives to South Africa recently on the issue went there to ensure the security of Nigerians, adding that the mission was useful as discussions were still ongoing.
“I praise the entourage of the House Leader, who led the delegation to South Africa, to ensure solution to the issue,’’ he said.
