FG will observe due process on Ibadan dry port construction – Amaechi

The Minister of Transportation, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, says the Federal Government is fully committed to extend railway lines to North western states to enhance socio-economic well being of the area.

Amaechi said this on Tuesday in Sokoto, when he paid a courtesy call on Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto on the sideline of the 15th National Council on Transportation in Sokoto.

He said the arrangements had begun, adding that after completing the technical issues, the matter would be forwarded to the Federal Executive Council for approval.

The minister commended Sokoto State Government for hosting the National Council on Transportation, adding that the forum provided avenue for participants to share and discuss transportation issues and proffer solutions to them.

He also lauded the government for completing the Sultan Abubakar International Airport and assured the state of more supports from the ministry to complement Tambuwal’s efforts in enhancing economic activities in the state.

The minister described the visit as home coming, in recognition of the active role played by Tambuwal and immediate past Governor of the state, Sen. Aliyu Wamakko for ensuring the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

Speaking earlier, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Land Transport, Sen. Olugbenga Ashafa, commended Tambuwal for his achievements on education and agriculture.

Responding, Tambuwal urged transport ministry to install more scanners at the Sultan Abubakar International Airport, Sokoto to ensure increased safety and screening of passengers.

He also called for extension of railway lines to Illela to facilitate the economic growth and attract foreign investors to the area.

The governor expressed state government commitment to cooperate with Federal Government in ensuring the success of projects and programmes geared toward improving the social and economic well being of the people.

It was reported that officials drawn from Federal and State Government Transport ministries and other private stakeholders in the transportation sector are attending three-day council meeting.
