LASU partners US varsity on teaching of GNS courses

Lagos State University (LASU),Ojo, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Triune Biblical University, Global Extension, USA, on the teaching of General Nigeria Studies (GNS) courses in the institution.

It was reported that the MoU was signed on Thursday in Lagos by LASU acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Oyedamola Oke, and Legal Adviser to Triune Biblical University, Dr Sam Bamgbose.

Oke said that the partnership was for his institution to teach students of Triune Biblical University GNS courses.

“Everybody will want to associate with success, as you are aware that we are the second best university in Nigeria.

“By God’s grace, we want to move up, with the support of both academic and non-academic staff of LASU.

“Today’s signing gives our colleagues the opportunity to impact knowledge in GNS courses and incidentally, we are almost going virtual now,” he said.

Oke, who added that the university had recently gone virtual in all its GNS courses, assured that it would deliver the GNS courses perfectly well.

“We are very delighted to partner with you today and we are going to give you the best that can be regarded as international standard,” he said.

Also speaking, Director, Centre for General Nigerian Studies, LASU, Prof. Biodun Akinpelu, said that LASU had the capacity to accommodate hundreds of thousands of students in any of its online courses.

Akinpelu said that the school was ready to initiate academic programmes at degree, diploma and certificate levels with Triune Biblical University, based on the core areas of needs of the Nigerian society.

“The Centre for General Nigerian Studies of LASU has reviewed its curriculum in each of the four GNS courses, as mandated by National Universities Commission (NUC).

“We have produced relevant textbooks and course materials on each of the courses before finally migrating to an online learning platform,” he said.

In his remarks, Prof. Valentine Iheukwumere, Director of Studies Online, Triune Biblical University, said that the institution had covered a lot of countries, especially in Africa.

Iheukwumere said that the partnership with LASU was infinite, assuring that the cost of GNS courses would be affordable for students.

“LASU is our starting point before we move to other institutions in Nigeria,” he said.
