Mr Abba Anwar, Chief Press Secretary to Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje, who said this in a statement on Tuesday, in Kano, added that the governor made the announcement at the launch of the “Keep Kano Clean” campaign at Jakara mega drainage, in Kano.
According to him, the drainage system would pass through Kurmi Market to Koki area and Kwakwaci, behind the old Triumph Newspapers company, in the Kano metropolis.
“As we flag-off the event taking place now, we are assuring Kano residents that henceforth, waste management in the state will be very effective and efficient.
“We are engaging the services of a private company based on a Public-Private-Partnership agreement. We are now fully into waste-to-wealth period.
“Our waste will now be an avenue for wealth creation with other benefits like improvement of electricity supply in the state, using the waste,” Anwar quoted the governor as saying.
The governor also urged the residents to always ensure a clean environment, as sanitation was of significant benefit, according to Islam, and all adherents are encouraged to always keep a healthy environment.
Similarly, Ganduje also urged residents of the state to desist from dumping refuse into drains to avert floods.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Environment, Dr Kabiru Ibrahim-Getso, commended the governor for his foresight in entering into the partnership on waste management.
“Since our arrival in this area, the community members have been expressing their happiness over the “Keep Kano Clean” exercise”, the commissioner said.
