Unemployed man docked for allegedly causing hurt, theft

A 25- year-old unemployed man, Joseph Alfred, on Thursday appeared in a Zuba Upper Area Court, Abuja, for allegedly causing hurt and theft.

The police charged Alfred who lives in Kado, Bimko, Abuja with joint act, causing hurt and theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Chinedu Ogada told the court that the complainant, Issac Essien reported the matter at Gwarinpa Police Station on June 26.

Ogada said that the defendant and one other at large attacked the complainant with a cutlass and inflicted him with a head injury and collected his cellphone valued N6, 000.

He said the defendant also collected the complainant’s wallet valued N2, 500 which contained two ATM cards and cash sum of N11, 950 on the said date.

The prosecution counsel said the offence, contravened the provisions of Sections 79, 290 and 240 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Judge, Mr Gambo Garba, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N500, 000 with one reasonable surety in like sum.

Garba ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and present means of identification.

He adjourned the case until Sept. 15 for hearing.
