Man docked for alleged shop-breaking with intention to steal
A 20-year-old man, Anuoluwapo Kazeem, who allegedly broke into a shop with the intention to steal, was on Wednesday docked in a Magistrates’ Court in Ota, Ogun.
The police charged Kazeem, whose address was not provided, with burglary and malicious damage.
The Prosecution Counsel. Insp E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence in a mechanic workshop on Ota road.
Adaraloye alleged that the defendant broke into the shop of the complainant, Yusuf Kayode, with the intention to steal but was caught by a vigilante group.
He said that the defendant also damaged a padlock worth N30,000.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 413(1) and 509 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun,2006.
The defendant, however pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate A.O. Adeyemi admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Adeyemi ordered that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and must be gainfully employed.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Jan.20 for further hearing.
