NiMet predicts 3-day cloudiness, sunshine from Monday

Cloudy, rainy, thundery activities to prevail on Friday – NiMet

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has predicted cloudiness and sunshine across the country from Monday to Wednesday.

NiMet on Sunday in Abuja predicted cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine over the northern parts on Monday.

It stated that there would be prospects of isolated thunderstorms over parts of Gombe, Borno, Taraba, Adamawa and Kaduna State in the morning hours.

Thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kaduna, Borno, Yobe, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto, Katsina and Kano State later in the day.

Cloudy skies are anticipated over the North-Central region with chances of thunderstorms over parts of Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger, the FCT and Kwara in the morning, afternoon and evening hours.

The inland and coastal cities of the south should be cloudy with prospects of few thunderstorms in the morning hours and later in the day.

States that will be affected are Enugu, Ogun, Ondo, Edo, Ebonyi, Anambra, Oyo, Imo, Abia, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Rivers and Delta.

NiMet anticipated that the atmosphere would be cloudy on Tuesday with sunshine intervals over the northern parts.

It stated that there would be chances of few thunderstorms over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe and Kaduna State in the morning hours.

“Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Taraba, Adamawa, Kaduna, Borno, Yobe, Kebbi, Jigawa, Sokoto, Katsina and Kano State.

“Isolated thunderstorms are anticipated over parts Plateau, Benue, Nasarawa, Niger, the FCT and Kwara in the morning and afternoon hours,’’ it added.

The agency forecast the inland and coastal cities of the south to be cloudy with chances of rains over parts of Ebonyi, Abia, Ondo, Osun, Cross River, Lagos, Bayelsa and Akwa Ibom in the morning hours or later in the day.

On Wednesday, cloudy skies with sunshine intervals are anticipated over the northern parts with pockets of thunderstorms over parts of Zamfara and Taraba in the morning hours.

NiMet envisaged isolated thunderstorms later in the day over parts of Bauchi, Jigawa, Taraba, Kaduna and Kano states.

“Isolated thunderstorms are envisaged over parts of Kwara, Kogi, the FCT and Niger during the morning hours.

“Later in the day, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Kwara, Kogi and Plateau.

“The inland and coastal cities of the south should be cloudy with prospects of thunderstorms in the morning, afternoon and evening hours.

“States to be affected are Ebonyi, Ondo, Ekiti, Anambra, Enugu, Edo, Delta, Cross River, Lagos, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom and Rivers,’’ it stated.

According to NiMet, the thunderstorms are expected to be associated with strong winds and lightening.

It advised motorists to be cautious while pedestrians should avoid taking cover under trees.

NiMet advised emergency agencies to be on the alert and urged airline operators to get updated weather reports for effective planning in their operations.
