The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) will run an issue-based campaign.

Mr Augustine Bisong, the New Nigerian People Party (NNPP) candidate for Boki II State House of Assembly made this in an interview with our reporter on Monday in Ogoja Local Government Area of Cross River.

Bisong said says elections must be based on personal achievements.

“Every candidate must be given an equal opportunity to show what he or she was bringing to the table, regardless of which party they represented,” he said.

He said he was in the race because he believed that he had done alot for the people of his community, adding that he still had alot more to achieve.

“That is why we are in the race. Politics today has taken a different dimension completely.

“Over the years, we have come up with political parties, for instance in my community they will tell you that we have got the biggest party in Africa.

“But the truth is that party affiliation has not really helped us. Rather it is the individuals that occupy political offices that have opportunity to do something.

“The party is not a living being. So, people are beginning to have a rethink, it is not party, it is about the person,” he said.

He said he was confident that he would emerge victorious at the polls giving his precedence, adding that his mandate was the wish of the people, regardless of his party affiliation.

“For instance, while we were conducting the primaries, you discover that these parties brought people of their own choice irrespective of what the local people in the community wanted.

“So, you will be shocked and surprised that for the first time in the history of Nigeria, we will witness an election that will produce winners from an entirely different political party.

“Today, I can tell you that no one political party can beat its chest and say it is going to win the election, especially in Cross River State.

“So, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and our gubernatorial candidate Amb. Wilfred Bonse has the same chances just like any other candidate and it is the same chances that I have like any other candidate here in Cross River.

“My past achievements are my biggest selling point. I have held political offices before, and I have done well for my people, and they are in turn urging me to run.

“This is what the true situation of things are right now, and I am very confident that I have already won the election because the voice of the people they say is the voice of God,” he said.
