Nigerian Soul Singer and Producer, Dami Oniru, has been announced as the Spotify’s Fresh Finds Africa artiste for the month of November.

Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Lagos.

Okumu said as Fresh Finds Africa artiste for the month, the soothing Soul and R&B Singer, would be featured on the eponymous playlist.

She added that Dami Oniru would be getting access to tools and initiatives packaged to inspire artistes on the path to long and fruitful careers.

“The Fresh Finds Africa programme is designed to elevate exciting talent and Dami Oniru is one of the most impressive new voices on the continent.

“We are excited to expose her to new audience and give her opportunities to take the next step as an artiste,” she said.

Okumu noted that Dami Oniru first broke out with the hit single Iyawo and her sophomore single Fallin.

She said following a handful of guest verses on both sides of a brief hiatus, she released her debut EP, Bri’s Lounge in 2019.

According to her, Dami Oniru’s music harmonises R&B, soul and African instruments, with a sprinkling of trap.

She said an inspired artiste such as Dami Oniru sees music as her second nature.

“Her moniker comes from a studio session where she randomly sang her name and envisioned people singing back.

“To bring that dream to life, she has managed to interweave three facets of a career: music, fashion and tech, while setting her own standards for herself.

“Dami Oniru is inspired by the opportunity to join a roll call of amazing talent, and be exposed to even more new ears,” she said

Responding, Dami Oniru said: “It is an absolute honour to be chosen as Spotify’s Fresh Finds Africa artiste for November 2022.

“I have always hoped to reach heights where anyone can have access to and connect with my music, so this is a dream come true”.

Every month Fresh Finds Africa spotlights one artist selected by the Spotify Music team.

It is an important aspect of Spotify’s initiatives, including RADAR and EQUAL, created to support the African music scene.
