The Supreme Court in Abuja on Thursday declared Mohammed Omadefu, member representing Keana Constituency at Nasarawa State House of Assembly, as the authentic candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Keana state constituency in Saturday’s Governorship and House of Assembly elections.

Justice Ogunwumiju Helen delivered the judgment in an appeal filed by Mr Mohammed Atose, APC aspirant for the constituency, challenging the nomination of Omadefu as the party’s flag bearer for the constituency.

She said that Atose’s appeal lacked merit, thereby upholding the ruling of Appeal Court authenticating Omadefu as the APC candidate of the constituency.

Omadefu, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Information, while reacting to the judgment by the Supreme Court, dedicated his victory to God, the APC and his constituents.

Omadefu, who was in the court, described the judgment as victory for democracy.

He said: “I want to thank God for my victory. I also want to thank my party, the APC, and my constituents for their support.

“Today, the Supreme Court has affirmed me as the authentic candidate for Keana constituency in the March 18th election.

“This victory is a victory for democracy and it is victory for all Keanas”.

Omadefu called on his opponent (Atose) with his supporters to join hands with him for his victory and the success of Gov. Abdullahi Sule come March 18.

“I want to call on my constituents to come out enmasse to vote for me and His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, on March 18, 2023.

The lawmaker assured of continous quality and effective representation at the state legislature, if given another mandate.

On their parts, Mr Olabode Akindele, Counsel to Omadefu, and Musa Danladi, Counsel to the APC, appreciated the Supreme Court for a well delivered judgment.

They also congratulated Omadefu for his victory at the court.

Our correspondent recalls that on Feb. 2, the Appeal Court sitting Makurdi, recognised Omadefu as the authentic APC candidate for the Keana constituency.

Dissatisfied with the ruling of the Court of Appeal in favour of Omadefu, Atose filed an appeal in the Supreme Court, which was dismissed for lack of merit.
