Ninth Benue assembly resumes from recess for fourth legislative session

Benue House of Assembly on Wednesday resumed from recess, marking the commencement of the third sitting of the fourth legislative session of the ninth assembly.

In a speech to welcome lawmakers back, Deputy Speaker Mr Christopher Adaji, who presided over the plenary, expressed the hope that members are set for the final sitting that would end the lifespan of the ninth assembly.

Adaji said the ninth assembly has a short time to conclude legislative business, stating that the period is very crucial to the lawmakers.

He appealed to the various leaders of the house standing committees to tidy up and bring forward backlog of legislative businesses before them to dispense.
The deputy speaker promised that bills and reports pending with various house standing committees would not be left behind.

Meanwhile, a bill for a law to provide for the retirement age of teachers in the state has passed first reading at the floor of the assembly.

The bill was presented to the house by the Majority Leader, Mr Damian Cheme.
Clerk of the house, Mr Bernard Nule, accordingly read the bill for the first time.

Deputy speaker then referred the bill to the house standing committee on Rules and Business to be slated for second reading on a later date.
