Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa on Thursday presented the Staff of Office to Mr Johnson Matalo, the newly installed Gubo of Yungur, as a Third-Class Chief.

The coronation ceremony, which was held in Dumne, Song Local Government Area, attracted traditional rulers, well-wishers, and other prominent personalities from across the country.

While congratulating the new Gubo, the governor stated that the creation of the Yungur Chiefdom marks a significant milestone, not only for the Yungur people but also for the state.

He emphasised that the recent creation of new chiefdoms and emirates, aligns with his administration’s commitment to fulfilling its political promises as outlined in the eight-point agenda.

“I have always been guided by the Constitution of Nigeria, the aspirations of our people, and the fear of God.

“The creation of the Yungur Chiefdom, along with other Emirates, is a clear demonstration of our administration’s commitment,” Fintiri said.

He further noted that, historically, there was no justification for the Yungur people to be placed under the traditional authority of any other group.

“Today, I am pleased to have corrected this historical anomaly. This is what the people desired, and we have granted them their wish,” he added.

Fintiri pledged to uphold constitutional principles to restore the dignity of the people, improve their standard of living, and ensure the security of their lives and property.

He urged the newly installed chief to harness the vast untapped potential of the Yungur’s and promote peace and unity among all ethnic and religious groups within the chiefdom.

“If these resources are properly utilised, the Yungur chiefdom has the potential to become a thriving economic hub and a major contributor to the state’s food production.

“The talents and potential of our youth must be harnessed for the greater good, ensuring peace, progress, and sustainable development in Yungur chiefdom,” he said.

Responding, Matalo expressed gratitude to the governor for his courage, foresight, and commitment to an inclusive governance.

“With a heart full of gratitude and humility, I receive the Staff of Office as a symbol of authority to serve as the paramount ruler of the Yungur Chiefdom.

“The creation of the seven Chiefdoms and Emirates in Adamawa is a testament to our governor’s commitment to fostering peace, unity, and development across Adamawa State.

“We appreciate this historic step, which has given our people a stronger voice and a clearer identity.

“Today, I solemnly pledge to lead the Chiefdom with justice, humility, and the fear of God,” he said.
