The Police Command in Akwa Ibom has intercepted a vehicle during a stop-and-search operation, recovering a locally fabricated firearm and two live cartridges.

The command’s Public Relations Officer (CPRO), DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Uyo.

“The stop-and-search strategy aims to curb crime and enhance public safety,” John said.

The police spokesperson said the incident occurred at the Ikot Ekpene Control Post when officers stopped a Mercedes Benz C300 with a customised plate number, FORBES JR, carrying three male occupants.

“In a determined effort to rid Akwa Ibom of illegal firearms and criminal elements, operatives of the command intercepted a Mercedes Benz C300 with a customised plate number, FORBES JR,” John said.

According to the CPRO, the occupants hail from Itak and Ndiya villages in Ikono Local Government Area of the state.

The police spokesperson further stated that the Commissioner of Police, Baba Azare, had ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter.

John reassured the public of the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
